In the last week of February 2009 more than 61 people died in Modasa (Sabarkantha) district Gujarat due to out break of Hepatitis B rising primarily due to unsafe medical practices especially re-use of syringes.
To prevent such incidences occurring again Time Technoplast Ltd's - Health Care Division arranged a Press Conference on 13th March, 2009 at Ahmedabad and announced the launch and demonstration of its unique medical devices branded as Genex Auto Disabled Syringe and Auto Collect Blood Sampler.

Speaking to the press, Mr. Raghupathy Thyagarajan, Director - Marketing and Mr. Anil Agni, Vice President of Genex confirmed receiving enthusiastic response from the Indian Medical fraternity. "Latex and metal-free, uniquely designed syringes gets locked on first use and breaks if misuse or re-use is attempted. It prevents the used/ infected syringe from being reused and recycles" said Mr. Anil Agni.
Bio-medical waste (like used syringes, blood collectors etc) has to be either incinerated or disposed off scientifically. (As per World Health Organization (WHO) study carried ou-over 13 lac deaths occur due to unsafe medical practices resulting in over 2.3 lac people being infected with HIV, 20 lac infected with Hepatitis B and 4 lac infected with Hepatitis C.)

Mr. Raghupathy Thyagarajan added that
- Government should make mandatory use of Auto Disable syringes for all injections.
- Strict guidelines and tighter administration for proper disposable of bio-medical wastage.
- Bio-medical waste (like used syringes, blood collectors etc) has to be either incinerated or disposed off scientifically.
- Surveillance and surprise checks to enforce proper disposal of bio-medical wastage.
- Public interest awareness campaign to highlight the benefit of Auto Disable Syringes to bring awareness at every level.
- The minister of Health remarked Auto Disable Syringe is the best solution to protect tragedies like sabarkantha
